This Friday will be the same as last - a work party at the Farm's two sites!

9:30-12:30: Current Botany greenhouse space (Farm tasks, chickens, etc.)
1 - 3 pm: New site by Center for Urban Horticulture (helping SYGW)

[TheUWfarm] First Summer Work Party Tomorrow!

Hey Farm Friends,

 

Come down to our current site between 10 am and 12:30 pm tomorrow, or to our new site from 1-3 pm helping SYGW harvest!

 

Seattle Youth Garden Works is our partner organization at the new site, currently running a small production space there for their stand at the U District Farmer's Market.

 

We'll have a potluck lunch + big Farm salad (peas!!) from 12-12:30 at the greenhouses and then walk down to the new site.

Clarification: For Friday's work party, we're meeting and eating at the current Farm space by the Botany greenhouses, possibly going down to the CUH space if there's work to do around 1 pm. :)

Less Talk, More Walk: Guerrilla Gardening, Wild Harvest and Turning Waste into Resource.

To look at a landscape and be able to assess its health and hear its call to fertility is a revolutionary skill and great service to Mother Earth. In this class we will be covering soil/garden health, how to read into the language of the landscape, learning native edible plants and guerrilla gardening. We will explore how to dive into the replenishing of the Earth and her resources without fear or a sense of separation. 

Essentially, what we've learned from our combined experience living in the Wilderness, Traveling world-wide to Sustainable Communities, and Studying Permaculture at both Evergreen State College and University of Washington will be boiled down to the most imperative and passionate pieces of sustainability we have to offer. Open to the interested seeker and master gardener alike! 

This 2 hour hands-on class will cover:

- 10 Essentials for a Sustainable Heart-Land-Connection ("Greening" the home and body-mind)

-Wild Edible and Medicinal Plant walk & preparation techniques (Bring Notebook/Camera)

-Making Eco-friendly "seed bombs" for planting out depleted areas 

-Suggested Reading Lists/Resources

-Making Community Connections/ Networking for the Earth!
