[TheUWfarm] USDA Dep Sec to present "Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food" on October 25 at 5:00pm

Hey Farmers, the Deputy Secretary for the U.S. Dept. of Ag is speaking at UW! BIG STUFF. See info below. She's also taking a tour of the CUH Farm site on Wednesday, Oct 24th at 3 pm if you'd like to come by and meet/greet. Farm leaders Bennett and Cassie will be there - contact them if you have questions!

Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food

Kathleen Merrigan, the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will give a presentation on Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food, an initiative that highlights the importance of local foods and aims to strengthen the connection between farmers and consumers. She will showcase the Know Your Farmer Compass (available here: www.usda.gov/kyfcompass) and discuss how local food systems strengthen rural economies. Deputy Secretary Merrigan will also discuss various career opportunities for students interested in local agriculture, not only on the farm, but also in government, business, and the non-profit sector.

Deputy Secretary Merrigan will be speaking at the HUB Lyceum (Room 160) on October 25th at 5 pm. The talk is free and open to the public.
