[TheUWfarm] Summer/Fall Chicken Crew

Bawwwwk,

Summer quarter is almost over, which means we will need a new set of volunteers for the  chicken crew! If you're interested please fill out the poll linked below with your preferred days/times.

I realize lots of folks will be going on vacation or absent for at least one or two weeks, but if you can make a majority of the weeks and would like to participate please fill out the poll and just send me an email with the weeks you are unavailable and we can find substitutes.

If you can't commit but are interested in being a substitute or just keeping up with the girls please join the chicken list-serve: https://mailman1.u.washington.edu/mailman/listinfo/gallus

There will be more training sessions, a work party and a chicken crew meet and greet prior to the new session so stay posted!

As always if you have any questions don't hesitate to email me!

[TheUWfarm] Fri Work Party: Battling Berries at CUH!

Hey Farm friends,

This Friday's work party will be the same time frame as last week - meeting at 9:30 at the Botany greenhouses to walk down to our CUH space and working together from 10 to 1.

The twist: We'll be working with the folks at the Center for Urban Horticulture to pull blackberries and such in the wetlands nature conservancy! We need to reach our volunteer labor-exchange hours with CUH  to pay for the use of space down there. It's a beautiful place down there that not many people have explored - I'm excited. We have gloves, bring good shoes!

At 1 pm we'll be coming back up to the Farm space for a potluck lunch with the Dirty Dozen! See you soon ~

Hi all!

There will be a short training session on how to take care of UW's chickens this Thursday, July 7, at 6:00 pm. We will be meeting by the chicken area, located on the Burke-Gilman side of the Greenhouse.

This is a good time to learn about the chickens if you are interested in doing a future chicken shift, or if you have questions about taking care of the chickens.

Can't make it but are still interested? Send an email to Katie at ktcnclmb@u.washington.edu to set up a time to learn about chicken care.

Thanks!

[TheUWfarm] Compost Work Party This Friday!

Hey summer farmers,

This Friday from 9:30-12:30 at the Botany Greenhouse come play, learn and make compost!

We will be making new compost piles, cleaning up the compost area, checkin in on the worms and possibly making some new signage (potential art project alert!).  Attention coffee drinkers: coffee grounds are a wonderful nitrogen source for compost- please bring any coffee grounds with you!

Bring something to snack on and we'll end with a picnic. Hope to see you there!

Best,
Norah Hummel
