Hey Farmers! I recommend getting involved in this if you can! The food and farm bill is one of the most far-reaching and impactful pieces of legislation. It impacts all of us in more ways than you might imagine. I was volunteering with this group last year and they are great! Take a look!

I regret to inform you that we've decided to cancel this Friday's pizza bake due to some scheduling conflicts. We will probably be holding another in mid to late June, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for any updates on the farm's facebook page or website!

Hope you all enjoy the long weekend anyway,

[TheUWfarm] Pizza Bake this Friday!

Hey everybody!

This Friday (5/25) from 3:30-6pm at the Botany Greenhouse site the Farm will be holding the LAST PIZZA BAKE OF THE QUARTER! Don't miss this awesome opportunity to make your own pizza and have it baked to perfection in the Farm's very own wood fired pizza oven.

If you'd like to learn more about the farm, coming to this pizza bake is a great way to do just that! Provided there is enough interest, we will be giving tours and answering any questions people have about ways to get further involved with the Farm

Please bring a topping to share or a $5 donation to help us cover the cost of dough, sauce and cheese!

There will be tents in case of bad weather, so be sure to show up, rain or shine!

Hope to see you there!

We will be wrapping up this year's restoration project on Saturday, May 19 from 1pm to 4pm, at our Yesler Creek site. Thanks to the good work of volunteers in February and March, we have already removed weeds and installed native plants, including willow and cottonwood live stakes, young conifer trees, and many types of ground cover. Now for the finishing touches! During this work party we will be applying mulch around our new plants, taking measurements of the current vegetation (for monitoring) and creating a unique nature art project: a willow branch sailboat!

Please come join us if you have the time! We provide the snacks, coffee and tools - just bring yourself and some water-proof boots if you have them! Oh, and tell your friends.

What to bring/wear:

Bring your water bottle and your weed warrior attitude! Please wear clothes that you can get dirty/wet and bring RAIN BOOTS. The bottom of the creek is mucky and, from personal experience, I know how easy it is to step in the wrong place and start sinking! Rain boots are clutch! If you don't have any, try to borrow some from a friend, or alternatively, we will have you work on more elevated parts of the site. Feel free to bring gloves if you have some you like; we will provide gloves, tools and snacks for everyone.

Please bring your friends!

[TheUWfarm] UW Farm Activities this coming Saturday, the 19th!

Hi everyone!

I heard the workparty this weekend went awesomely.  I can't wait to head down there tomorrow and see everything you got up to!

You may know Lane, one of the Farm interns this quarter.  His intern project is to construct the greenhouse that SYGW got donated to the Farm several months ago.  He is planning on doing so this coming Saturday, the 19th!  If you would like to assist, stop by the Farm on Saturday!  (Lane, please let us know what time is best!)

Everyone!  I have a slight, last minute correction!  In order to line up with the Just Garden Project timetable, the workparty tomorrow will be 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM!  Sorry for the mistake.  Hope it's not too much of an inconvenience!  And if you absolutely cannot show up until 11:00, you should still come on by. =)

Hello, Farmers!

There are two more Saturday workparties this month!

The first is this weekend, Sat the 12th, from 11-3.  It will be lead by the ever-wonderful Rachel Stubbs, and will combine the forces of volunteers from the Just Garden Project with UW Farm students!
The next, and last UW Farm workparty of the quarter is on May 26th - unlike past workparties, this one will be from 10-2!  Instead of thinking of it as getting up a whole hour earlier, think of it as having a whole other hour to fritter away in the afternoon sun.  I am looking forward to seeing you there.

In exciting Farm news, we had our first harvest at the CUH this morning!  UW Farm Dirty Dozeners bicycled down to the site and helped me harvest, rinse, and refrigerate our overwintered kale, mustard, and lettuce for sale to HFS!  I do believe our dreams are being realized.  Keep your peepers peeled for a blog post about it coming up in the next week.

Stay tuned for summer workparties and volunteer opportunities!

Enjoy the sun!

[TheUWfarm] Urban Farmers needed!

I am looking for some urban farmers to help grow my business this summer.
GoGo Green Garden was established in 2007 and is an edible gardening business where we build, plant and tend gardens for city people in their backyards, front yards and rooftops. We have added some awesome clients this year with lots of space and are looking for a few extra hands to pitch in and help sow, grow & tend throughout summer and fall. We also want to support burgeoning environmentalists, farmers and food lovers! There is potential for growth and a long-lasting work opportunity for any go-getters.

Urban farming position pays $12-$20/hour DOE, and scalable as the season wears on. It is helpful if you have some simple tools, but not required. You should know basic gardening terms (sow, propagate, till) and principles (season extension, vertical gardening, etc), be familiar with seasonal plantings and have a general working knowledge of how to grow food. No new gardeners, please. All gardens operate organically. All gardens are in King County. Please send your desired work situation (hours, days, etc) and a resume and/or short paragraph about why you want to urban farm this summer to: amyp@gogogreengarden.com

THANK YOU!
