[TheUWfarm] Reminder: Compost Crew Meeting at Botany Greenhouse

Hello folks!

The compost crew is meeting for the first time at the botany greenhouse
site from 8-9am this Tuesday! We'll get to know one another, briefly
discuss goals or interests, and then perhaps set out to turn our long
neglected compost piles. ;) Bring breakfast food if you would like to
share something. Bring your friends if they are interested. Students,
non-students, members of the community, all human beings welcome. Dress
for the weather and be prepared to get your shoes slightly dirty. Shoot
me an email if you have questions!

See you there,
Kay

[TheUWfarm] Compost Crew Fall 2013

Hello all!

Thank you to those who have responded to the compost crew doodle poll.
This quarter's compost crew is going to meet weekly on Tuesday 8-9am...I
know, I know...not everyone can make it, and it's super early. BUT I
will be on the farm on Wednesday afternoons 4-6pm so if you can't make
it to the meetings on Tuesday you can still help out on Wednesdays. One
important note: if a Tuesday meeting is cancelled, or if I won't be on
the farm on Wednesdays, I will send out an email at least 24 hours in
advance.

Our first official meeting of the quarter will be on 1 October 8-9am.
This quarter we will be making hot compost as usual, picking up coffee
grounds from HBar, and possibly starting a vermicompost!

Email me if you have questions. See you soon.

Best and thanks,
Kay

[TheUWfarm] Student Activities Fair tabling September 25 and 26

Hello all,

Fall quarter starts next week!

The Student Activities Fair on red square is on September 25th and 26th from 10am-3pm. The Farm gets to share a table with the Student Food Co-op so that we can tell new and returning students how awesome food, eating and urban agriculture are!

If you are able to stop by and table any time between 10-3pm that would be great! Please email me back with your availability.

Enjoy this somewhat sunny day!

Cheers,
Norah

Hey farmers!

This is a former farmer writing to let you know about an awesome local organization and an event coming up this weekend.

Eat for Equity organizes bi-monthly community dinners to benefit other great local organizations. We cook a delicious meal using donated local, organic ingredients, and invite friends, family and community members to an informal dinner for a good cause. We normally have 50-70 guests and have raised around $700 per dinner to donate to organizations like the Equitable Food Initiative and Queer Youth Space. Guest donations are on a sliding scale.

I'd love to invite you all to our next dinner this Saturday, September 21st at Picardo P-Patch in Wedgwood (see fancy invite below).

We're also always looking for new volunteers and organizers. If you're interested, please get in touch with me at dana.kublin@gmail.com or check out the sign-up sheet.

Would love to see you there, and please pass the word around to friends and family who would also be interested!

Sincerely,
Dana

This September, dine with us to support City Fruit!

City Fruit promotes the cultivation of urban fruit in order to nourish people, build community and protect the climate. They help tree owners grow healthy fruit, provide assistance in harvesting and preserving fruit, promote the sharing of extra fruit, and work to protect urban fruit trees.

On September 21st, City Fruit will be sharing the bounty of this year's harvest with us, in the form of Apples, their cider press, and more!

At September's backyard feast, you helped us raise over $600 for Pomegranate Center! Join us this month for more delicious food in support of a good cause!

Eat for Equity dinners couldn't happen without your participation. Interested in volunteering for this Eat for Equity dinner? Sign up for Transportation, Prep, Cooking, Greeting, or Clean-Up on our Volunteer Sign-Up Form -- it's fun!

[TheUWfarm] Doodle Poll for Fall 2013 UW Farm Compost Crew Weekly/Bi-weekly Meeting

Hi UW Farmers!

I apologize for the long hiatus this summer. Well, autumn has come and
our compost crew shall be back in action when school starts at the end
of September. If we have the time and enough people interested, we might
start our own worm compost!

So here's a doodle poll for anyone interested in joining/continuing to
join the Compost Crew this autumn:

http://www.doodle.com/4aedeixaaehvxrtp

Please respond asap and I will do my very best to set a weekly or
biweekly compost work party that works for you. As usual, no prior
experience needed, no set-in-the-stone commitment needed. Just drop by
when you can! Thank you all!

Yours,
Kay

[TheUWfarm] Mushroom log inoculations

Hey farmers,
There's going to be a mushroom inoculation work party on Tuesday the 17th from noon to 5pm at the botany greenhouse site. Anyone interested can show up at any point in that time period for as little or as much as they can. We'll be inoculating about 15 oak logs with shiitake plug spawn on the picnic bench just outside the greenhouse.
See y'all around
