Community Pot luck

CoLAB on Food Research at the UW
We are really excited to be co-sponsoring the CoLAB discussion series. Collaborating with Strangers workshops connect UW students, faculty, and researchers during 3-minute speed meetings. Participants exchange and generate ideas, building new partnerships to start or improve upon research projects. It might otherwise take you years to meet the people you'll connect with during one-on-one conversations. Details and RSVP here.

Jr. Farmer Leadership
Folks interested in teaching kids about farming and sustainable agriculture, and/or would like to lead field trips at the Farm, give us a shout at theuwfarm@gmail.com. 

Video Production
Calling video production experts, we need your help creating a promotional video. Compensation will be in (a lot) fruit and veggies. If interested please email theuwfarm@gmail.com.

[Course] ENVIR 495 - The Urban Farm - 
What?  A three credit class with information, practical hands on work, and inspiring ideas for the aspiring Urban Farmer!
When? - Summer A Term - Tuesdays - 12 to 5 with one weekend (required) field trip and service learning at the UW Farm.
Why?  It is a great opportunity to learn more, make connections and get involved with urban farming on campus and beyond.

Skylight Farms is a startup 20 acre non-certified organic-practices farm looking for seasonal farm hands to assist in all day-to-day operations and fieldwork. They have room for both experienced and inexperienced workers. Positions are open beginning early April and run through October or November.

Volunteer Party
Volunteers, join us Saturday 4/26 at our CUH site from 10am-3pm for a day of farming.

Video Production

American Farmland Trust Speaker Series
The American Farmland Trust is hosting a Speaker Series on Urban Agriculture on Tuesday, April 29th from 6:30 to 8 PM at the Asgard Tasting Room in Fremont. Becky Warner of City Grown Seattle and Jacqueline Cramer of the Beacon Food Forest will be presenting on food systems, urban agriculture, and permaculture. RSVP to Kate at kdelavan@farmland.org

 

In honor of Earth Week, please join the UW Wildlife Society, UW Farm, and UW Beekeepers for an exclusive showing of the critically-acclaimed film "More Than Honey!" 

Showtime will be Friday April 25th at 4:30 at the Physics and Astronomy auditorium. UW bee honey-buttered popcorn and honey-sweetened tea will be served. A suggested $5 donation will support the maintenance of our campus hives. 
We want to thank everyone that braved the elements with us this Saturday at our Mercer work party. Check out our Farmers getting down and dirty here. You guys rock!

Future Farmers
Do you like kids and hanging out at the Farm? We need volunteers to help with 3rd grade field trips! No prior teaching experience necessary. We need folks Wednesdays, 5/7 and 5/21 from 12:30-2:00. If you are interested contact Lauren at laurbear2@gmail.com.

Eat for Equity

When: 11:30 am, we're doing brunch!

Evening of American Folk Dance
Our Compost Czar Kay is hosting a folk dance night on April 18 from 7-10pm at the UW South Campus Center, room 316. Try your hand (and feet) at a wide range of American folk dance: from square dances, contra dances, polkas, waltzes to schottisches. Fiddler Sarah Comer will be leading a new Old Time strings band, backed up by guitarist David Cahn, and Tony Mates will be calling. Admission is by donation. Compost Crew
The Compost Crew will meet at the Botany Greenhouse every 
Monday from 10-11am. We have an active worm bin right now, so bring your compost from home (coffee grounds, fruit and veggie leftovers, old newspapers, stale cereal grains, etc.). Wear comfortable shoes and clothes (dress for the weather). Questions? Contact Kay at chaik@uw.edu.
