THANKS LEXIE!
Our Botany Greenhouse Coordinator Lexie Nelson has graduated from her masters program and will be headed south to new adventures in the Bay Area. Congratulations, Lexie! You've been a fantastic leader and team member. We'll miss you!
My time spent working at the UW Farm has been such a wonderful and life changing experience.  Though I had done a lot of gardening before, this was the first time I had worked on a farm.  I came in not knowing very much and being really nervous about having a leadership position when I was still learning myself!  Thankfully, I was surrounded by the best group of people to help and support me whenever I needed.  I have learned such an incredible amount from these lovely friends in my short time at the farm. I feel prepared and confident to go out and use and share my new knowledge of growing food.  Not only have my farming skills increased tremendously, but I have a newly renewed sense of hope and inspiration from all of the great work done by such wonderful people.  All it takes is a small group of people to make a huge difference and I saw that first hand working at the UW Farm. A huge thanks to Sarah for all your support.  Keep growing!

Eat for Equity Seattle will showcase Bengali dishes at their next dinner benefitting Water1st International

Seattle, WA

The next Eat for Equity Seattle dinner, featuring a medley of Bengali dishes, will be held in West Seattle on Saturday March 22nd from 7pm - 11pm. After raising over $1000 for ROOTS Young Adult Shelter in January, we are excited to partner with Water1st International. Water1st envisions a world free of extreme poverty where everyone has access to a sustainable, clean water supply and a toilet. Water1st works toward this vision by enabling the world's poorest people to build, sustain, and manage projects that integrate clean water, toilets, and hygiene education. At our dinner, we'll learn how Water1st works with community partners to build and maintain sustainable water projects in Honduras, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, and India.

Eat for Equity Seattle is the newest branch of a nationwide nonprofit committed to fostering and creating communities that give generously in support of organizations that are addressing inequities in their communities.  We do this by throwing large-scale community feasts and charging a sliding scale price/plate. The dinner guests nominate organizations in Seattle they find worthy of supporting, and then the feast is all made from scratch, by volunteers, and hosted in Seattle homes. Our ingredients are sourced from local producers whenever possible, and this community of growers and distributors are vital to creating the beautiful and generous shared-dining experience.

We established Seattle’s branch in November 2012 and have since thrown eight successful dinners benefiting Seattle Youth Garden Works, The Equitable Food Initiative, Lifelong AIDS Alliance, Queer Youth Space, City Fruit, the Pomegranate Center, our own Eat for Equity branch, and ROOTS. We have also created successful partnerships with City Fruit, the Community Orchard of West Seattle, BB Ranch Butcher, Hogstead Farm, New Roots Organics, Bluebird Grains, Whole Foods, and the Central Co-op.

For more information about this Eat for Equity event, please visit our Facebook page Eat for Equity Seattle. We can also be found on twitter and instragram @eatforequitysea. For additional inquiries, please contact us at seattle@eatforequity.org.

With love and good food,

Eat for Equity Seattle
