[TheUWfarm] Mushroom work

Hey all,
So there will be more mushroom work this coming week as we only got 9 of the 32 maple logs inoculated, so there will be inoculations being done this wed from 2-5pm and sat 10am until the maple logs are all inoculated, probably around 4pm. So anyone interested can drop by sometime during those times at the botany greenhouse on campus. Thank you very much to those who came on sat, and to everyone enjoy a hot sunny week and have a happy 4th of July!
Ryan

Hello everyone!

Summer dirty dozen is starting back up tomorrow, Monday, from 11:15 to 1pm at the  Botany Greenhouse.  Dirty dozen meetings will continue to meet at this time for the entirety of Summer Quarter A term, so hopefully you can make it to some meetings!  Tomorrow we will get some starts growing and work on fixing up beds for planting.

There is also a work party tomorrow at the Botany Greenhouse from 3:30 to 6pm to beautify the farm.

Soon summer student farmers/coordinators will send out finalized work hours for both CUH and Botany Greenhouse.

Happy summer,

[TheUWfarm] Mushroom logs

Hey farm community,
This Saturday there will be 32 maple logs to inoculate with dowels of shiitake and some lions mane mushrooms. If you're interested we'll be working at the botany greenhouse from about 1-4:30pm, although we could be done sooner, I'm not sure, haven't inoculated this many logs at once before. Also if you want feel to bring along some of you're own logs to inoculate as there should be plenty of extra dowels, hardwoods work the best, especially oak, and preferably between two weeks and a few months since being cut, and between 4 and 12 inches in diameter although more would be fine.
Hope to see ya guys there,
Ryan Thummel

[TheUWfarm] Farewell Farm ~ Meet Sarah!

Hello Farm community,

I have had a wonderful four years with the Farm, and am so grateful for all I've learned and the great people I've met during this time. I have so enjoyed serving as the Farm's student coordinator at the CUH site this year.

I am excited to introduce the Farm's new on-staff Farm manager, Sarah Geurkink! She will be the point-person for the Farm's relationship with HFS, the CUH, and UW academics. She will also be a support for student farmers, and consistent presence at our Farm space at CUH. With questions, you can shoot her an email at sgeurk@u.washington.edu.

If you're free, go on down to the CUH and say hi tomorrow (Monday) 1-4 pm, and stay tuned for summer Farm hours!

Fondly,

Rachel

[TheUWfarm] Ecological literacy workshops

Happy summer!

If anyone wants to get out to Whidbey Island on Wednesday June 19th, there is an awesome workshop on ecological literacy and awareness skills being led by my housemate Rob at the Whidbey Institute. Here is the link if you want to check it out: http://www.whidbeyinstitute.org/conversation/id/d9c13a/about

There will also be a couple other opportunities for workshops of varying lengths throughout the summer. Feel free to email him robertmellinger@gmail.com or check out his Facebook page, Foundations for Ecological Literacy, for more information. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Foundations-for-Ecological-Literacy/231731840299958?fref=ts

And if you're not interested, please forward to any curious and ecologically-minded parents, educators, students, or friends who you think would be interested.

Thanks all!
