Hey y'all, Jamie B. the beekeeper here. I've been out of town for the summer, but while I've been gone a whole crew of awesome students and volunteers have been working through the busy season with the bees. Even more importantly, we've got an amazing funding page up at Microryza! Science funded by the people! Also blogs, a facebook page, and features by the UW daily! Check it out!

Hi beekeepers,
I hope everyone's summer is going well. I just thought I'd send a summer update on what's going on at the apiary. Things have been busy with ongoing research projects through the bee internship and lots of bee activity. We've created a blog up for the class (beeinterns.blogspot.com) and there is also a new UW Beekeeping facebook page (UWBeekeeping on facebook). Along with class updates, the blog has a lot of cool links to resources, beekeeping events and whanot -- if you check it out, I'd appreciate any feedback you might have.
We're hoping that the new facebook page can help promote the beekeeping program and engage more of the public. Support for the facebook page is really appreciated as we are raising research funds for the apiary right now. To fundraise, Evan has partnered with Microryza, a science/research fundraising organization, and there are just under 2 weeks left to meet our goal. I'm not entirely sure how it works, but if we don't make the goal, we don't get to keep any of the donations, which is a huge bummer. We've raised over $1000 so far!! In other news, we were on the cover of the daily a few weeks ago and there's a daily news clip on youtube.
