[TheUWfarm] Tuesday Farm Lunch - Winter Quarter

Hello Farmers,

This coming winter quarter we will again be running the Tuesday Farm Lunch seminars.

This winter our seminar will be slightly different we will be covering three current controversies in Sustainable Ag. We will have fewer guest speakers and more readings/small discussions.

I'm excited for the course - and I hope you will join us. You can register for this one credit course as:
Biology - 486 (i can get you an add code if you need it)
ESRM 490 or
ENVIR 450 ( if you'd like to overload this section I can help facilitate that as well)

We meet every Tuesday at 12:30.

The basic outline is described below:

1 - International Priorities for Helping the World Feed itself:
Week 2: CAGJ?
Week 3: Gates Foundation?
Week 4 - no visitor - class discussion re: how to support small scale farms/ community participation in the food system in far away places?

2 - THinking about Genetic Modification
Week 5: GMO's (THE SCIENCE)
Week 6: GMO's (not the Science - emotional, ethical, legal responses)
Week 7: Reading of case study on Papaya and discussion

3 - Animals and the Integrated Farm
Week 8: Closing the loop on the farm - what does it mean?
Week 9: the role of animals in agriculture/ closing the loop?
Week 10: The case for ethical food choices..._______________________________________________
