[TheUWfarm] Farm Summer Classes!

Hey folks,

Did you know there are some awesome farm summer classes to take? It's true! If you're going to be around this summer, what better way than to spent it getting your boots dirty in the sunshine?! Summer quarter registration is ongoing over the next couple weeks and if you're looking for something fun and excellent to add to your schedule here are some suggestions.

BIOL 240 The Urban Farm (sln: 14101)
Elizabeth Wheat will be teaching the 3 credit course the urban farm, which examines the understanding of the ecological connections between food production, human health, and planetary sustainability. Teaches basic skills needed for food production in urban areas and the ethics behind sustainable urban agriculture, including a hands-on component on the farm at the biology greenhouse.

BIOL 399 Beekeeping Internship (sln: 10463)
Evan Sugden is the man in the know when it comes to bees. He's been a beekeeper for more years than I've been alive and is an excellent hands-on teacher. Not only will you learn the basics of beekeeping, you will learn about the biology and study of honey bees, native bees, and pollinators in general. Last years internship was a blast and I've been a bee lover ever since. Pics here: www.flikr.com/photos/beeinterns

There are many more topics that are usually involved with the farm including anthropology, environmental studies, psychology, biology, etc.! We are always willing to give tours to classes, so pester your professors to get you guys outside with the growing things.

Cheers,

Jamie Bass
Bee Team Coordinator
