BREAKING: Board of Park Commissioners votes YES on a recommendation for an urban farm at Atlantic City Nursery to Superintendent of Parks!

Dear Michelle Ann,

Yesterday, September 9th, the Board of Park Commissioners voted unanimously, with abstention, to recommend the establishment of an Urban Farm and Wetlands Restoration site at Atlantic City Nursery!

On behalf of the Friends of Atlantic City Nursery, I would like to thank you for your effort and support on this journey. In just nine months, we have moved closer to making the Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands Project a reality. While this is a major milestone, there is still more process to go through and more work to do before the first vegetables are planted.

Next Steps

Although the Board voted Yes on the establishment of an Urban Farm and Wetlands Restoration site at the Atlantic City Nursery, the Parks and Recreation Superintendent will actually make the final decision. Once this decision has been made, Parks and Recreation will most likely issue a Request For Proposal (RFP) for organizations that would like to operate the Urban Farm and restore the wetlands.

To learn more about what this means for us, the Friends of Atlantic City Nursery, please come to our community meeting that is scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, September 11 at 10:30 am at the Rainier Beach Library.

Once again, thank you for your support for this community-wide undertaking. We look forward to our continued partnership with you in our efforts to increase food security in Rainier Beach.

Sincerely,
