[TheUWfarm] First 2011 Crop Mob: Next Saturday, April 23 (fwd)

Hello farmers!

Karen Litfin, a professor at the UW, has her very own startup community farming operation out on Whidbey Island. I've been to a few of her crop mobs and they're always lots of fun, and we're always well fed as thanks! It looks like she has some exciting things in the works this year, so if you have the time this Saturday go help her out! I'll probably see you there. =)

Dear Friends of the Farm,

Lucky for us, spring is late this year ...because so are we! But we're hatching a big plan that I'm pretty sure will be worth the wait.  Not only have we doubled the size of the
vegetable garden, thanks primarily to Raven's hard work, we're in the process of tilling an acre of our most fertile ground in order to plant five types of grain:  oats, barley,
quinoa, amaranth and corn.  This means we'll be sowing literally hundreds of thousands of seeds in the coming weeks!

Eric Conn, a south Whidbey farmer, will be joining us.  He's a wealth of knowledge, so you're sure to learn something.  If you want to catch a glimpse of him, check out the
Transition Whidbey video.  He's the 30-something farmer:

So I hope you'll get your hands into the soil with us next Saturday.  As always, we'll start at 10 am and end around 4:00, with a yummy lunch in the middle and plenty of snacks
throughout. If you want to avoid the ferry traffic, I'll be doing a 9:45 ferry pickup.

Please let me know if you can make it, as well as if you have special dietary needs, whether you can carpool & from which part of the city.  And if you can't make it (sorry for the
short notice), you'll have plenty of opportunities in the coming months.  Plus, we're always open to drop-in help; just all us at 360.579.2995.

As always, please let me know if you'd rather not be on our crop mob list.  I'm a conservationist at heart, and that goes for bandwidth and visual space too!

Spring blessings,

Karen
