Garden Mentor Program Assistant

Part-Time

10-12 hours/week April - August

 

The Garden Mentor Program is a new offering from Community Harvest of SW Seattle and Seattle Tilth which trains community members to be garden mentors. The Garden Mentor program consists of an intensive 30 hour training over the course of 5 weeks. Following the training, mentors are asked to help new gardeners start their own vegetable gardens.

 

We are looking for a Program Assistant who will work with the Project Manager in making this program a success.   The Assistant will work 10-12 hours/week from mid-April through August.  The location is West Seattle.  There will be some weekend and evening work, but otherwise the work hours are flexible.  Compensation: $15/hour.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design outreach materials
  • Help recruit mentor participants
  • Help recruit families for mentoring
  • Liason with Seattle Tilth
  • Schedule post-class mentor meetings
  • Support the program in other administrative ways

 

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Basic knowledge of organic gardening
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good computer skills – graphic design skills a plus
  • Friendly and enthusiastic
  • Organized
  • Able to work with a diverse population
  • Creative and self-motivated
  • Reliable transportation
