Subject: Union Bay Natural Area Tree Planting this Saturday 10am-Noon!
Hey folks,
The greater UW Botanic Gardens/Union Bay Natural Area received a great
donation
from a local nursery for the ongoing afforestation efforts in the UBNA.
Initially we were scheduled to receive ~400 trees, but market forces and
weather aligned and we were instead given almost 800 trees! Fortunately
we've got a cool, wet weekend to get these in and the support of the SER
student guild (which means donuts and coffee!)!
Starting at 10am this Saturday, we'll be out planting western redcedars in
the Willow groves around Yesler swamp, Douglas fir on the edges of the blue
tube forest and some western hemlock in between, all in the Union Bay
Natural Area! While tree planting is fun work, we didn't anticipate the
volume of trees that we received, so to make the most of winter's final
push, we're going to need many hands. If you can stop by for even a half an
hour or so, it would be greatly appreciated.
Tools, refreshments and free fun will be provided to all who attend. Bring
work gloves if you've got 'em and remember to dress for the weather. We'll
be meeting in the southwest parking lot of Merrill Hall at the Center for
Urban Horticulture at 10, or if you arrive later, you can just find us out
in the Union Bay Natural Area!
