[TheUWfarm] Baking Day: Things to Bring!

Ahoy Farmers, Bakers and Poets!

As many of you are well aware, folks from the UWFarm and the UW Student Food Co-op are putting together a Baking and Poetry Day at the UW Farm on Saturday May 14th.  This is a potluck event of the non-traditional sort.  Please bring uncooked items that you wish to throw into the cob oven and share with the whole gang.  This is the perfect opportunity to experiment with cooking/baking with real, honest-to-goodness fire!

Our breakfast and lunch menu so far includes: breakfast pizzas, frittatas, breakfast pastries, cardoon stew, hearth breads and flat breads, and roasted vegetables.

Suggestions of things you can bring:
-pizza dough (see below for recipes)
-breakfast pizza toppings: fruit, nuts, honey, peanut butter, jam, cheese
-fritatta ingredients: any vegetables laying around in your fridge, be it zucchini, onions, spinach, etc. and a few eggs, if you got 'em
-root vegetables for roasting
-unbaked bread dough
-unbaked dough for scones, cinnamon rolls, brioche, etc. (see below for recipes)

Non-edibles to bring:
-metal cookware for your baked goods
-cast iron cookware (let me know if you do have cast iron--we need it!)
-friends

We will be starting the fire at 7am and mixing doughs/preparing ingredients until 10am when we'll start throwing stuff in the oven.  We can arrange for you to drop ingredients off at the farm the day/evening before the event if that would be more convenient for you.  Please let me know if and what you plan on bringing or feel free to contact me if you have questions or need help with a particular baking idea. This is sure to be an outrageously excellent event!

Never made pizza dough or scones before? Neither of these items require an electric mixer, so even the kitchen-less college student can make them.  Here are a few recipes:
