[TheUWfarm] Rally to kick out Sodexo, this

Hey everyone - this Thursday there is a rally to protest Sodexo, a campus food provider. USAS came to speak to the UW Farm's Food and Justice seminar last week, so we wanted to let everyone know about this rally! See the link at the bottom for more information on Sodexo.

Rally to Demand That President Wise and UW Regents Stop Paying A Global Human Rights Violator

Join the UW Kick Out Sodexo Coalition as they rally to the Regents to demand Wise be held accountable for her multi-million dollar back door deal with food service giant, Sodexo.

When: Thursday, May 12, 11:30 am

Where: "Red Square" in front of Gerberding Hall, University of Washington (Parking available under Odegaard Library)

While the UW Regents are meeting, join in a rally with students, faculty, and community members who are outraged by UW President Phyllis Wise's refusal to drop a multi-million dollar deal with the controversial outsourcing giant, Sodexo. Earlier this school year, Human Rights Watch and other investigators revealed Sodexo's pattern of global human rights abuses, racial discrimination and threatening workers who stand up against sweatshop conditions. The UW can terminate Sodexo's contract at any time given 90 days notice, but has chosen to continue its ties to this human rights abuser.

The UW Kick Out Sodexo coalition has been leading a seven month effort to terminate Sodexo's contract to run concessions at Husky stadium and can wait no longer for President Wise to listen to the concerns of her students, faculty, and community. President Wise has instead attempted to secretly hand over a new 5-year contract to Sodexo. Wise's scheme was thwarted only by students' discovery of internal documents that confirmed that the UW administration misled students about the contract process. Join the UW Kick Out Sodexo Coalition in telling the Board of Regents that students can't be kept in the dark about financial decisions and back door deals won't go unnoticed.
