[TheUWfarm] Food scrap snippage for pink spaghetti

Hey farmers,

We all love our composting worm bins  on either side of the greenhouse. We want to see them turn into "a mass of pink spaghetti" as Doug so aptly put it. To make this happen, there is now a station in Room 8 of the greenhouse set up where people can cut up their food scraps with hedge clippers and mix them with some dry carbon material (leaves) before adding them to the bins.

This small extra step will make for more porous area for ventilation in the bins, more optimum water content, and thus more aerobic respiration by our friendly bacteria and a comfier pad for the worms!

Room 8 is the one near the entrance by the new asparagus bed on the false-quince/picnic table side of the greenhouse. When you're inside, facing that entrance, looking at the analog clock on the wall, the door is to the right, right under the clock. You go in and turn left, and there's a bucket, clippers, and a bin of leaves. This is right by the window looking out on one of the worm bins (the one by the future asparagus bed).

Happy composting,
Rachel
