Subject: Farm Apprenticeship Opportunity
Hello,
We are looking for new apprentices for our upcoming growing season at Green Oaks Creek Farm and Retreat. Please forward this to people you know who might be interested!

Our Apprenticeship program runs for eight months, from April 1st to Nov. 30. Every year we seek three apprentices to join us for the growing season. Apprentices help out with many facets of farming such as propagation, field work, animal husbandry, farmers market, CSA program, infrastructure development, decision making, etc. In exchange for working 5 days/week, apprentices are given a monthly stipend with the opportunity to earn more each time they work a Saturday farmer's market, all the produce they care to eat from the garden, communal lunches on work days (with rotational cooking duties), access to our extensive library and an opportunity to experience farm life while living close to the land.

We are seeking people with an interest in farming who are responsible, hard working, self-motivated, fun-loving, and enjoy living and working in community.

The farm property is 63 acres and is nestled against the Santa Cruz mountains, borders Green Oaks Creek, and is replete with riparian areas, rolling meadows, coastal live oaks, redwoods, hiking trails and ocean views. We are a half hour drive south of Half Moon Bay, half hour driive niorth of Santa Cruz, CA and overlook Ano Nuevo State Reserve.

We cultivate four acres of organic vegetables, strawberries, herbs, and flowers. Our farm is certified organic by Global Culture. Our farm model is influenced by Bio-Dynamic farming principles. We also rotationally graze 2 goats, which we milk and make cheese and yogurt for the community and a flock of chickens for eggs and meat which enables us to produce more of our own soil fertility, thereby using less fossil fuels (by eliminating the trucking in and spreading of compost).

Income on the farm is generated from the sale of produce to the Palo Alto farmer's market, Half Moon Bay farmer's market and the Pacifica farmer's market, a few local restaurants, groups that stay at our retreat center, and from a subscription market program. This program, also called a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), provides local community members with a box of fresh produce once a week throughout the growing season.
We generate most of our electricity with an array of photovoltaics and heat our domestic water with solar water panels. Future plans include converting our tractor and farm truck to run on vegetable oil and creating a living machine for processing waste water.

The multifaceted goal of the farm is to create beauty in sustainable, low-impact, ecologically friendly, simple living; to teach awareness and responsibility through example; and to create and interact with an ever expanding community of people through food production and education.

If you or someone you know is interested in our apprenticeship program and would like to learn more please contact me through e-mail at navahavocado@hotmail.com.

Thanks,

Eytan Navah
